Fat RayRay!

I don't know Rebel Wilson as a comedian nor have I seem her in any other movie than Pitch Perfect but the character she plays 'Fat Amy' in Pitch Perfect is hilarious!  Rebel plays her so well.  And I mentioned 'Fat Amy' in my last post I wanted to share with you why I love that fictional character so much!

This film wasn't about her being plus size but somehow she carried the flag so well.  Fat Amy remains true to herself throughout the movie and ends up being the one in the group who helps push the group to accept themselves!  This clip in particular is my favourite because she/ script writers challenges people to face the kind of behaviour towards plus size people they have behind the scenes.  When she's asked you call yourself Fat Amy?" she responds "yes, so you twig b****** don't d it behind my back."  Take that!

Some will argue she shouldn't call herself the word fat in the first place.  She is just Amy.  That's true.  But I see it as when she calls herself Fat Amy she is doing it in a way that just is and not nastily the way they would do it.  She takes away their ability to do it and to me that's a win!

I wore my new Keep Calm I'm Fat & Friendly t shirt to lunch with some friends in Camden, London where there are many Keep Calm shirts and I got so much attention!  It was great.  You could see people were like "what?!" and some people said "well done" some frowned and to those haters I might as well have been Fat Amy daring to call myself fat.  That's their job and I robbed them of the joy of being nastily judgemental behind my back.  When my friend posted it on my personal facebook it blew up!  Friends and family loved it!  So even if not one of my t shirts sell I am pleased with what I accomplish myself by wearing it!

So beyoutiful  bigYoutifuls!

Keeping Calm!

Yep!  I really am. ;)  I know I last posted last week but I've been warning you about all my other 'projects' that needed doing especially my valentine votive candles that needed to be made and marketed in time for sales.  It's been a push!  One doesn't realise how much goes into marketing a product.  Making the candle was fun, enjoyable and I loved it.  But then I had to think about what was I going to call my candle range.  What packaging, the labelling?  It all felt much too much but I have persevered though it's meant a little less time on here lately.  So if you were looking out for new posts in the last few days apologies.  I still have a lot of projects on but things should go back to normal from here on.

So one of my other 'projects' is a plus size t shirt slogan range and currently the one I designed above is my favourite so I thought I would share it with you.  Lol.  The 'Keep Calm' slogans have taken on a life of their own but I will be willing to bet that none get as much attention as mine have since I started wearing this. Some people can't believe I've actually got the nerve to wear something that says 'fat' in it.  Some think it's 'in your face', some think it's funny, others catchy etc.  It's interesting to hear what people think when they see it.

So why did I have printed "Keep Calm, I'm Fat & Friendly'?  Because has it ever happened to you that if you're walking down a street it's like as you approach someone or some people to pass by them you can almost see them visibly become alarmed at you or your size?  Maybe it just happens to me.  Some times when I'm on the underground tube I can see that people are afraid to sit next to me.  Perhaps they think I'll turn around and smother them in their seats with my fat! Lol.  At the weekend I was crossing some traffic lights and a man was waiting to cross on the other end.  As I approached you could tell he was trying to judge how much room to step aside so I could pass but his judgement was so way out he tripped over himself and almost fell!!!  I'm not so big but in his mind that's how much he felt he needed to move to be safe.  So in my mind I would always be thinking to myself, "don't worry mate, I'm big but I'm friendly".  Point was just because I was big I wasn't about to be nasty and hurt people because of my size yet I feel that's how people seem to respond or react.  Thus the slogan was born.

One other thing is this particular tee for me says I know I'm fat and if it offends you that I'm shouting it out to the world that's your problem.  You're only cross because I said it first.  I didn't wait for you to say it once my back was turned.  Thanks to 'Fat Amy' in the film Pitch Perfect that is something that was meant to be funny in the film but smacked so much of the truth.

Anyway, this tee of the range to come is on sale now and I will be placing it on ebay.  The only downside to this is that plus size tees are not cheap and my efforts to keep the price down has been difficult to achieve. Plus printing costs etc.  I'm forced to sell these at £20 each. :/  But they do come in up to 4xl in Black, White, Navy and Royal and in almost any colour up to size 3xl.  I may also put them on etsy so I will post links to these later today.

Anyway, bigyoutifuls aside from all things 'projects' I'm hoping you're all well and getting on well with your own life endeavours etc.   I would just like to say how much I appreciate you passing by my blog if you ever do and I just want to wish everyone a super happy day today! :)

Stay beyoutiful  bigYoutifuls!

Some Truth on Low Fat Diets At Last - From A Brave Doctor

Continuing on from my blog the other day I couldn't believe it when I came across this on youtube from a brave brave doctor willing to say what she was taught in medical school and the reality afterwards in helping people with weight loss and health is vastly different!

It is half an hour take some time to listen to it all.  You may not agree with all of it but she really has some great nuggets of information on health,

They Don't Know What They Are Talking About!!!

Yep!  I'm having one of those days!  I am so sick and tired of the obesity talk.  Don't get me wrong, I know, as do many other 'obese' folk how important an issue it is.  Believe me I do.  I would like to lose some weight and I will keep trying.  But I'm damned if I'm going to continue to sit here and pretend that skinny people, doctors and politicians have the answers!  Really?!  I'm sorry I've come to the conclusion none of them know what they are talking about!  Full stop!!!

Why if obesity is a growing number in the global community has there been no significant medical research and improvement?  Why is the answer always surgery? Pills? Starvation diets?  Ever year more and more get slim diets appear but yet the problem is growing.

I'm going to have to calm down to make sense of what I want to say here.

How many of you have had 'helpful people' or a stranger in your life suggest a diet to you?

What is wrong with these people?!!!????   Arrrgh!!!!   Since when has any diet been so successful that it has eradicated obesity for good?!!! C'mon people?!!!  How many of them who have lost the weight have kept it off for their life time?  Have you ever watched a programme where it showed a successful natural slimmer had kept it off for a long time?  Let's say a decade or even 20 years post diet?  Have you seen such a programme?  I haven't!  I don't think one exists.  Because they don't like to say it doesn't work.  Success stories aren't necessarily long term and sustainable stories that's for sure!!!  But brethren, sisters, where is that 'gooood' news?  Pray, surely if one 'diets' one will be healthy and slim for life?!  Where is he, where is she of such amazing accomplishment?  Please produce this gifted and talented dieter so they may share the keys to their success.   I am highly doubtful that such a person exists and if they do good on 'em!  It worked for them! I've been feeling for a while some misery at the global government's attitude towards the problem. They have been steadily drip feeding the global community suggestive untruths about obesity.  They are encouraging and giving license to people to enact out their ignorance and prejudice against people with weight issues. But let's go back to the 'diet' industry.  How profitable is such an industry that more and more people enter this market? To enter this market you must have some idea that there is going to be a lucrative market.  How would you know this?  Well, you would have your ear to the ground about what is going on in the food industry wouldn't you?  You'd know that such and such have approved chemically engineered foods which will cause chemical reactions in some people causing obesity wouldn't you?  More future clients for you then right?  Right! :/

So then the politicians come out and say how obesity is a problem and it's the obese people to blame.  How obesity is costing the nation.  What are the figures exactly minister?  For I never seem to hear any actual figures.  And in which area particularly?  Food?  Far as I know you don't dish out for free?  We all have to buy it.  Someone makes a profit from the chemically genetically engineered artificial food you approved for consumption?  I guess you must mean medical.  Yes, I need the doctor for things.  I have a human body like any other person.  But what I would like to know is how much more I am costing in medicine than someone slim?  Exactly?  How can I be costing anyone anything when my own doctors don't even truly understand how to help me?  And why don't they?  I've talked about his before.  Maybe the World Heath Organisation can provide some answers.  How much part of a student doctor's medical studies is devoted to understanding and treating obesity?  Surgeons learn about bariatrics but cutting people open to bring them to size can't be the only option after all this time?  They're all happy to say it's a problem but I don't see anyone in the 'know' actually doing much about it.  They're saying it but not showing it?  In my book actions speak louder than words!  So if my doctor ain't getting much learnin' how the hell he gonna treat me?!??!!!?  Round and round in circles until you give up and go for a life threatening operation!  That can work.  That's great for those it does.  But I am sad for the countless more who developed serious complications or worse.  My doctors used to delight in telling me if I din't do anything about my weight I would die.  They are right of course.   I could die.  From anything! Doctors do this usually because they have come to the end of their limited knowledge on obesity and so try to scare and shock you into it.

Don;t get me wrong.  They are right.  Absolutely right. Weight is not trivial.  You know this people.  You should always be learning about your body and what you put into it.  Learn to 'map' yourself and understand your own personal psychology.  It's all connected.  Heart, Mind, Body and Soul.  You can't even begin to attempt to change the body if you haven't dealt with issues in the mind, heart and soul.  I'm telling you.  This is what brought this bit of a rant on.  I watched a guy on youtube who had lost over 200 pounds (I think) and was still on his journey.  He had done so well.  Then he shared a vlog about his depression and his issues.  He thought, because this is what the world would have us believe, if he shed the weight his other problems would disappear.  Instead his problems became more prominent and almost unbearable for him.  Losing weight is only one part of the journey.  I came to this epiphany in my mid 30s and am 42 now.  It's a vicious circle where what we really need, the magic 'diet' ingredients are love, acceptance and understanding.  If we had those we could be more than motivated knowing that fail or succeed people were going to remain constant in their feelings toward us.  Any time you have to lose weight for acceptance something is wrong people!  There are more genuine reasons to lose weight and they are not what the world is telling you it is.  If you have issues then visit a doctor.  The right doctor.  To deal with those issues.  Or join a support group.  A plus size group.  Despite what people think plus size groups are not a bunch of fat people encouraging each other to eat more cake!  Eating is not the issue!  Then when you, no one else, you, are ready you can start to attempt this. You heart, mind, body and soul have to come into alignment to be powerful enough to try to lose weight.  I once lost weight on a diet I designed.  It was great.  I didn't pretend to like exercise and just concentrated on the diet.  I lost a bit and found myself being able to move a bit more naturally anyway.  I know if I go to a gym I ain't going back!  So I stopped lying to myself about that!   I like to eat to feel full so I made sure there were a lot of things Iike apples, melon etc. I ate lots and still lost weight.  I couldn't keep it up because guess what?  Where I live fruit and vegetables cost!  Yep more expensive than bread!  I'm not rich so what am I going to afford?  You got it.  Bread!  :/  Tell me politicians?  What is that about?  You want to do something about obesity?  Then send me a box of fruit and vegetables every week!  Free!  I'll show you I can do it then.  But that's me.  Someone else it may be something different which helps them.  This is when doctors should really listen and give practical help.  It won't cost them as much as a £10 000 bariatric surgery! And as for politicians the profits you make from chemical food engineering companies is how much?!

But I guess I have to accept some responsibility in order to be completely balanced in my rant.  Why oh why did we hand over control about what is so important to us to people who don't really have a clue?  Go to your doctor for things you are sore about.  Broken foot, cold, headache etc.  But about your weight?  Take control.  A footballer doesn't go to the fan in the audience and ask for help?  He kicks that ball and thinks instinctively what move to make next.  That fan wouldn't have a clue would he/she?  They'd have the guy lose the match in the end!  That's why when we try we fail.  We've got the wrong help!  We need to learn to live instinctively always learning about ourselves and others like us.  That's what we're doing as a community.  Let's find our own information and share it with each other and continue in the wonderful support that is the global plus world community.  Health is very important and we should listen to our doctors.  I'm not advocating anarchy but what I am saying is it's time you told them what is really going on with your body and influence them in the right way.  It won't work getting advice from someone who has never been fat.  They need to be quiet for just a little while and listen to you for a change!

As for the ignorant 'skinnies' what do they know?  They don't even know why they are skinny.  Someone I knew was a heavy drinker and smoker who delighted in saying within hearing of a lard crowd how worried they were for my weight.  One day I snapped back and said before you worry about my fat heart you should try worrying about your charred lung and dry liver!   We had equal health issues but she saw that because my vice was 'visible' she could hide her own health issues behind her weight.  Lol!  Still funny to this day and she has never done it again! But being skinny doesn't mean you are healthy either!

Okay rant over.  Every now and again it gets me you know. Anyway, saw this and I thought this is how I'll deal with some of the unhelpful 'helpful' advice I get in the future.

Big Positive Shout Out to BPSFW!!!

I hope the ladies at BPSFW forgive me for this but I just had to mention them on  my blog to show my support for the upcoming British Plus Size Fashion Week event 14th and 15th February 2014.  I was supposed to help out and from day one it all went wrong for me.  University, exams and my other projects chose just this time to conflict with my plans to be involved in this fantastic event.  I still hope to actually get to see the event and I think tickets might still be available on the website:

 www.brtishplussizefashionweekend.com

Check it out guys and get those tickets!  It's an amazing plus sized fashion line up with the best of British plus size designers show casing their talent.  I just love this kind of thing!  Finally, the plus size world in Britain is showing just what they are made of!!!  Fabulous!  We had some catching up to do to those around  the world who'd already woken up to the fact that we could be plus size and beautiful.  Clothes makes us feel that and some of the clothes that will be showcased, I don't know yet, but I think will blow our minds!  If you're in London then try to get to experience this fantastic event.  Well done to those behind BPSFW for working so hard to bring this to us.

Okay so now more apologies to my blog readers for the slight delay in bringing you new posts.  This was exam week.  Economics and Marketing. :/  Yes, I had to use every grey brain cell in the study of these two complicated subjects and I am pleased to say I think I have done fairly well.  At least I hope.  One never knows until the final marks are given.  Also I have 3 business projects on the go and I'm one person!  I don;t know how it happened but it's getting to the point where I am seriously having to consider getting some help myself!  With Valentine's Day looming close I have just finished creating a unique beautiful scent from fragrance oils for my scented candle collection.  I've just got packaging and labelling to complete and this will go on sale from 17th January 2014 on etsy and ebay.  I will tell you more about this once all is complete and post you the pics.  I love scented candles.  I love the mood they put me in when I want to just shut the world around me out!   It's from this love I started creating my own.  It's all about the scent and how it smells wherever you're burning your candle.  Anyway, it appears a lot of people like my blends as well as my single fragrance candles and this is taking off.  I think Christmas did the trick!  All this on top of my t shirt slogan collection, fashion designing and authoring as well as somehow devoting some time to family, boyfriend and friends!  I like to keep busy I guess.  But I never forget you my blog readers.  Look out for new posts coming soon.

Thank you for baring with me. ;)

Where Are and What About Plus Size Men?

(NB- This video is 23 minutes long but believe me if you have the time this is completely worth it!)

I must admit this has puzzled me for some time.  The plus size world and industry has grown so fast in recent years but seems dominated by women?  It felt like perhaps plus size men kind of didn't get the same abuse as plus size women and that they got a sort of free pass because they were men?  There is so much available now for plus size women but I have not come across much if anything for plus size men.  I know they exist.  But I kept wondering why they were so quiet?  Do they have a voice?  Do they share the same problems?  I didn't know.  The plus size industry is so geared at women it seemed to suggest that women had the 'bigger' problem.  I think we should be careful at just how much is being thrown at plus size women anyway.  Where there is a marketing dream there is potential for us to be manouvered into a completely different direction than what we hoped for ourselves to begin with. Let us not fool ourselves.  The Marketing machine is a big monster that will one day eat you up!   Also I hate when anything starts being called industry anyway which really matters to me because it means that things are  being 'manufactured' to be productive.  Including allowing 'industries' to manufacture how we should think and feel.  You need only look at how even within the plus size world there is division in plus side of plus world.  This is caused by the 'industry'.  I still don't see many images of women my size.   I'm a size 28-30 (UK).  I see people who are at most size 18.  I'm estatic when I see people my size because then I can relate.  Already the industry refuses to reflect an image of all plus size women and are influencing us on what is acceptable even within the plus size world. So much so we are all one yet I've had a 'fat' girl laugh at me in the street?!  She was plus size but she was criticising an how much more plus size I was?! The mind boggles.  But society has started to divide us this way.  The ancient rule of divide and conquer.  Be careful.   This is what the plus size industry can do unless we keep it on the straight and narrow holding it to the integrity it should have.  We really must be careful we have not exchanged one 'prison' for another and remain true to ourselves and our feelings.  Is this what big men are doing I thought?  Were they refusing to buy into the hype?  Why are they so quiet?  It baffled me.

So I trawled the internet to find some views from plus size men and it was difficult to find any coherent commentators until I cam across this guy in the video above.  He was responding to the youtube post of another guy who to me spoke absolute rubbish, was crass and above all disollusioned and ignorant.  That guy spoke with such authority and while I'll admit some of what he said was plausible I could not see past the vanity in his delivery.  Here is the link to it if you really want to watch it however bne strongly advised and warned there is an excess amount of foul language throughout http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho9k4tlqcZQ

The guy in the video at the top above was humble and genuine.  His views echoed mine in so many places I felt I had to share it.  So you can hear from a plus size man how life is just as tough for him living plus size in a community that likes to fat shame.  I realised me as a plus size women and he as a plus size man have similar issue.  They can't be exact because we are different genders however the majority of issues are similar and it was refreshing to hear them from a man's perspective.  We are plus size people before we are just plus size women and men.  Our issues are similar.   The difference is there doesn't seem to be much of a platform for plus size men to speak from?  Or it could be I have just completely missed the boat and there are tons.  Could be folks.  If so please excuse me.  It just doesn't seem as obvious for some reason.  Maybe it's because they don't want to stand out.  I don't know.  But I know a plus size man in the town I lived at last and I know he definitely has the same problems but seems shy about relaying these publicly the way I do.  I do because I reached an epiphany one day where I realised I am who I am.  I still smart when people are horrible.  I still shed tears.  I still have to fight to be considered intelligent and capable in my job but the difference is I don't join in.  Where I can I educate and where I have to I stand my ground!  They don't like it.  Ohhhh they don't like it.  But how else am I going to be me?  My fat my plus size male friend is gaining strength now from the  things I share with him and realising his true worth.  Remember the problem isn't that we are not adequate it is that we are so much so.  People think they need to keep us down.  Personally I want to see a plus size world that represents all members of its community across the globe.  Men, women and help for parents with teens and children.  I still want to hear from plus size communities and people from across the globe.  I'm determined to hear from you.   Look out for me.  I'll be dropping you an email any time soon.    Would also love to hear from any plus size men willing to open up and share.

So yes, there are plus size men and they do have issues like us.  Maybe we plus size women need to shift up, budge up and make a little room for them to join our plus size world.  The plus size world must be inclusive not divisive.  If we end up just mirror images of the 'normal' world then we have not done well people.  Nelson Mandela RIP, could have exacted revenge on his torturers when he had the chance but in order to show he was a better person than them all along he did something different.  We need to do the same.

Remember we want a plus size community not just a plus size industry!

Traditionally Built

A friend posted this on my facebook wall today and I thought I would like to share it with you.  I thought this was cleverley done.  Because when you look at the picture it is clear that every woman in it is different and yet every one of them is beautiful.  Each one has a particular group of people who admires their particular shape and size and finds it beautiful.  Different men will go for a different woman in this picture according to his preferences and what he considers beautiful.  If every woman looked the same, let's say a size zero, hardly any breasts or meat on them, how would he choose?

I believe in God so I say God but you may say nature or something different designed us perfectly.  He designed us as we were meant to be.  Our shapes and even our size.  I don't necessarily equate being plus size with gluttony.  There are believe me skinny and gluttonous folk out there.  I think it is a separate issue.  But I do believe some of us like in the animal kingdom are predisposed to be bigger than others.  An elephant is just as beautiful as a lean panther.  In Africa where I'm from big women are celebrated and seen as the ultimate in beauty.  The men there like that.  Not all but most.  If you've ever watched the No.1 Lady's Detective Agency series set in Botswana Africa or read the books the leading lady Mma Romostwe when challenged about her size responds, "I am traditionally built".  This is so true a statement because in Southern Africa a lot of women are big.  A lot of women have bigger breasts and bottoms.  Some are lean and tall.

The Lady's No.1 Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith

In China women are smaller.  In the amazon women are strong.  In Europe there is a mix.  Why then has the world decided to judge what is beautiful by a set of ridiculous standards when nature has already done the work perfectly.  A modern day collective mental illness I reckon.  I love mysel and accept my size.  I will do the best with it to enhance my natural beauty.  I am traditionally built.  Yes, I could lose a few but generally I am always going to be a bigger woman.  There is no one size fits all. No one beauty is all.  All is beautiful because that's just how God made it and how nature intended!

Stay Beautiful,
