A Night In: A Movie Mission!

Oh-oh!  Staying in?  On a Saturday night?!  Yep!  I'm making no apologies for it even if it does feed into the stereotypical characteristic of a fat person.  I'll be on the couch, feet up, a cool drink and some snacks, watching movie after movie after movie.  I love watching movies.  My favourite movie genres being Romantic Comedies, Action, Sci-Fi and Drama.  But I also love foreign films. If it's subtitled I can get with that.  It helps me understand aspects of different cultures I wouldn't otherwise learn.  When acting in their own language the actors help give an authentic feel to how it really is where they live and you can learn something new about how different people respond to that same issues faced all over the world.  I love French, Italian, Russian and at the moment I am almost downright obsessed with Korean Rom Coms. Apparently I'm not the only one too.  The teenage daughter of the friend I visited in Germany last week told me she is in love with a Korean teen TV series online.  All subtitled of course.  But basically what I'm trying to say is sometimes I like to watch something new and completely different.  Unlikely love stories between different cultures are a bit of an addiction.  I love the idea that love breaks barriers.  Barriers which have been put there by fear and ignorance.  Different colours shouldn't make us different as long as the blood which runs through our bodies is red.  Just saying.  My favourite interracial romance film is called Something New with Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker (my crush) from the Mentalist.  What a sweet story.  I could watch that over and over.  There are a number of other 'repeats' I would watch happily watch tonight.  Something New, Onegin with Liv Tyler and Ralph Fiennes and The Ugly Truth with another crush Gerard Butler and Kathherine Heigl just to name a few.  But I'm in the mood for something newish.  I though it would be interesting to watch something with plus size women featuring in lead roles.  Well needle in a haystack moment really!  There are few Queen Latifah movies which I do enjoy but can only watch so many times, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Muriel's Wedding etc.  Nothing much new sadly.

So I tried youtube and Google.  I trawled and trawled and came across some trailers but not the full movies sadly.  I want so much to know where I can purchase copies but there doesn't seem to be any further information available on line.  If you know or have watched any of these please do message me.  These few intrigued me.  These aren't hollywood versions of anything but as always what interests me most is the subject is something I have experienced as a plus size woman myself or I want to learn about.  These are plus size movies made independently and you can tell but I have give their creator absolute kudos for doing something about the lack of representation in film.

The Thick Heart

I love this trailer and I would love to see the entire film.  It's a film by a girl called Kristi Drake and the movie is about a girl who goes on a journey to find self acceptance.  According to the trailer she seems to find love along the way which helps.  But that's all I could get from the trailer.  Open the link under the picture to watch the trailer on youtube.

Plus Size Divas The Movie

Lol!  How I would love to watch this!  Again, all I could find was the trailer on youtube but the story lines seem interesting and intriguing. It looks like it's abotu a group of plus size women going through various issues. I don't know if this is because it's made in America that you can only get the DVD in the States but if anyone has watched this or knows where I can watch the full version please please please message me!  Girrrrrrrl! ;)

Gordita!

Apologies for the poor quality of the photo.  If only I could find the complete movie version.  The trailer was so interesting.  It seems a young plus size woman whose lost herself starts to fight back at her tormentors and discovers just how strong she really is and that he doesn't need to be afraid.  It's very latin which I like because I find often latin films contain a sort of brutal honesty in their stories.  Where can I find this please?

Love Plus (Documentary)

At last something I can watch!  But it's only 15 minutes long and I encourage you to watch it too.  Those 15 minutes are well used and the documentary is packed with lots of information and insight into the love live of  different plus sized women and the challenges they face.  Hey, at least I get to watch something and share it with you. ;) Just copy and paste the link in your browser.

So that's me. I'll finish this blog here because I have 3 chapters of my book to write before I allow myself to rest for the day and settle myself on my couch.  I'll watch the documentary and then maybe tonight I'll watch....Onegin....or will it be The Ugly Truth?  So don't judge me.  After writing for a full  two days I deserve this!

Stay beyoutiful   bigYoutifuls!
